The Web Services Project
This project will bring together campus leadership, content managers, end users, and service providers to define the service offerings that support our campus web presence. More than just servers and applications, services include setting expectations, defining roles and responsibilities and supporting standards. Major objectives include:
- Public facing campus web service definitions
- Clear access to local web services
- Documented life cycle for campus design templates
- Roles and responsibilities for faculty, staff and students who support official websites
- Metrics for measuring success of web services

The Chancellor's Office and acting Arts Dean
Margaret Morse sponsored an on-campus photography contest, open to all students, staff, and faculty. The images on our site garnered critical acclaim in the 2007 contest. The photograph "Old Oak" by Brooke Crowley, a graduate student, won the 2007 contest. For more information, see the following news article.
Project News
October 29 - Completed List of Topic Pages
The team completed review and integration of all four draft service pages, created draft of Web Services Team membership and definition and completed draft list of service catalog topic pages and assigned content to team members.
September 30 - Inventory of Divisional Services Complete
The service definition team has completed the service definition for the Web Publishing service as well as the inventory of the divisional web services.
August 28 - 2 Web Services Defined
The service definition team has completed the initial round of service definition for the Web Hosting service and the Training and Resources Service.
July 21 - Four basic web services identified
The service definition team has identified four basic web services, and created mock-up service catalog pages to begin the detailed service definition process.
June 30- Began inventory of divisional web services
June 15 - Completed preliminary identification of four central web services
May 5 - Completed inventory of current web services
April 1 - Web Services Definition Project Launch
The Web Services Definition Project kicked off on April Fool's day with its first official team meeting. The agenda was no joke as this team of service providers, subject matter experts and stakeholders worked through context and expectations setting, and began two work packages. Co-sponsors Jim Burns and Janine Roeth provided the "Convocation" speech, complete with sports metaphors and evidence of why this project will succeed where others have failed.
Feb 10 - Web Services Project Charged
The Web Services Project team began official project meetings in February. Under the leadership of Jim Burns, Director of PIO, and Janine Roeth, Director of Client Service and Security, this project will identify and define web services available to the campus.
